All these behaviours were shown at the time of this assessment conducted by Shaun Aldridge (Ruff Diamond Dog Training); however these behaviours may change in different circumstances.

| Well we have had Honey on foster for just over a week now, (Thanks to James for dropping her off). Well one very laid back and chilled lady, at times appears to be comatose, probably not the dog for a sporty home.. she came with a pile of christmas presents, but at the moment she's avoiding the Christmas Spirit. No I'm not looking... Actually a very placid, loving girl... (warning, likes to lick ears...) Taz basically just ignores her, she's no fun... no fighting or chasing.. he prefers Tom Boys I think. Oh and she does know the sound of rustling cellophane... It means head for the kitchen will update in the next couple of days with Christmas Pics. | |

| Well ,Honey has been with us for oh 3 weeks now... and the assessment is pretty much accurate... She initially had a couple of rows with Taz, which she initiated... now no problem.. out on walks she does not like other dogs, though her response has been reduced. BUT this will need working on... next doors dog also elicits less of a response reducing daily. Think at some point she has had to compete for the basics. oh and she does occasionally whine/pine for no apparent cause... never in the same place, no apparent or obvious trigger, but if you distract her she ceases.
all of that aside, a real softy, can be a bit princess and the pea, she will find the softest billet available. then believe she's invisible. If spotted head down and tail wags....
Great with humans , fine with children ( controlled ones). On the lead sets a determined pace, slight pull but not mad, then thats her one speed. As I said to Sharon, rising trot so far is her limit, no canter or gallop. But she does enjoy her walks and if you head towards the front door shes there with you...
It may be insulting to her, but I'd say this girl is an average dog... a problem or two, yes, but I think they are solvable, and will pass with time and trust.
If you want a companion for long country strolls and evenings relaxing. this is your girl... It your after a live wire to play catch or football with the kids and go charging around the countryside with.. No don't think so.
No mess, no separation anxiety , no gas since diet adjusted. No damage to property yet.

| UPDATE 18/01/13 Honey has been in foster since just before Christmas with a male Rottweiler, she is only just showing signs of wanting a game with him, they have had a couple of tiffs in this time, this seems to be jealousy, Honey adores people and has not had any issues with humans at all, so she is perhaps trying to protect what she wants which is the attention she craves being loved Honey has met some prospective homes but she is protecting what she wants which is the centre of attention and the humans, we feel it would take a few meeting with Honey if there are other dogs in the home, Honey is such a loving girl that would need a home where they are willing to work with her to slowly integrate her into the home with other dogs or to be an only dog, she could live with a non bouncy dog but again time would need to be taken for them to live happily together

| Could i just add my opinion on this, and its only from a bullmastiff owners point of view, i'm not saying i no it all, but.....
I have 2 bullys and when we introduced our youngest bully into the family, our first bully was used to all the attention being on her. We had alot of issues at the beginning with the eldest being very jealous of the new addition. There was no play time, and if the younger one got to close and invaded the space of the older one we would have abit of a tiff going on. It was just pure jealously, and we knew we could overcome this with time and watchful patience.
Please dont let Honeys behaviour put off a potential new family, my 2 bullys absolutely adore each other now, they sleep together, play, share and sit nicely together for treats. With abit of hard work and love the jealousy issue can be overcome and they can live in harmony and be best friends.
We were never going to give up on our 2 getting on, and it didnt even take very long and it was all worth it cos they are a joy and we love them dearly, out on our walks people comment on how great they are, they are great ambassadors to the breed and to big, slobbery cuddle monsters in general. | |

| Thank you for your comments Wish everyone would give the time that is needed to settle a dog into a new home, bringing in a new dog you have to expect a few problems, if there is another dog in the house or not, unfortunately some people want it perfect from day one and are not willing to but in the time and effort, wish they would because it is so worth it Well done for sticking by and working with your two | |

| She's quite fine with Taz now, its strange dogs... and it will be something that changes over time of that I'm convinced. She's fairly easy to control when out and about.. and I think her general response has lowered. | |

| Can anybody recommend a good rottweiler to bull mastiff translator. Honey and Taz are getting on much better, in fact Honey is mellowing all round, but they appear to speak a totally different language. they start messing about. Taz starts his play barking ..now this get lost in translation somewhere , as honey, no matter where she is at the time heads for the back doors and gives little "woofs" to say "Hey this is my territory." Leaving Taz wondering what he's missed!!!!.
still reacting to strange dogs, but not as vehemently.. so things really looking up...

| Well Honey has much improved the last month or so, much more relax around Taz, as you can see from the first picture , its snowing outside , but sun is quite strong , so I think they are both sun bathing. This second one is a video, igf my linking works???? Out on her walks she's an independent sole, likes to keep on trucking, not sure if she has a destination in mind. I have no idea what this little girl went through, she is only slowly altering her attitude to other dogs on walks. and is not too sure still on Rottweiler play and can be a bit gruff at times, but taken as a whole, she has improved. Currently I'd say if you have no other dogs, then that would be best for her.. or if you have a solid other dog able to withstand a few outbursts. that aside, she loves humans, loves walks, loves riding in car... likes a soft bed, very princess and pea. | |

| Well have to say over the last couple of weeks Honey has come on in leaps and bounds.. Yesterday we took her to one of our favorite rehab locations... Its a Forestry Commission Property called locally the Cafe in the Woods. Its a Sunday morning haven for spaniels, collies, labs and other assorted breeds. Plus bridle paths and bike tracks. Very high volumes of assorted traffic. Well the bikes did not put her off. As you can see shes an alert little lady. She likes to move on , not nervous of new situations. Turning into quite a solid little girl, now we can get her on longer walks.... Ah, now her problem.. if you look closely she has spotted the staffie type with the family at the bench on her left... just below the fluorescent jacket. she did pull away a bit , but carried on walking with me, even if a bit reluctant. On the return trip, despite knowing the dog was there, she deliberately ignored it.. I'm not sure if it shows clearly, but I've actually got her on twin leads. Her main one is a fixed, the other lighter one on a check, as she needs a bit of distraction. But 4 weeks ago, she would have flown into a rage, at the sight of another dog. and she did react to several on her walk. But much reduced, and as the morning progressed so did the response. This little lady just needs a firm and consistent owner , in the house she's a little dream boat, outside shes improving at quite a rate. Also her reaction to other dogs when in the car has altered from rage and bark, to a whine.. This girl just needs time.. | |
