Jen is four years old, has now been spayed and started her vaccinations, seems friendly especialy once she has known you for about 2 minutes

So far she has met Puddin, Pascal and even Rhubarb without an issue

Is this the "female aggressive" dog???

Yep that's the one she may kiss a female to death,

She was in vets yesterday surrounded by woman and went to everyone for a fuss and gave everyone a huge kiss

Kyra needed the whole of you in the shot this was part of assessment so needed

Took Jen to vets yesterday for her 2nd vacs

She has a slight infection on her spay wound (this spay was done by another vets whilst she was on her way here and not by our wonderful vet) nothing to really worry about keeping it clean and we are sure it will be all cleared in a couple of days, she was such a good girl when she had her stitches out

Jen is a very confident and reassured dog. Her obedience training needs a lot of work but this will be easily achieved through food or affection. All these behaviours were shown at the time of this assessment conducted by Shaun Aldridge (Ruff Diamond Dog Training); however these behaviours may change in different circumstances.

Walked Jen today with my niece, love her, love her, a real sweetie very good and when we stopped she just sat on our feet wanting love and cuddles.

I am fostering Jen and she is lovely, had her a whole 4 days! Loves people. Good as gold in the car here and is enjoying lots of attention, walks and chill out time. I have a shetland pony in the paddock next to the garden and shes been fine with him when they ve met at the fence.

Im not sure how much training shes had walking out ( maybe not had that many walks?? if only they could talk!!) as everything is a fascination to her and she has pulled towards other dogs. She doesnt drag you round though and walks nicely when not distracted.

She does a very good sit and give you a paw. We have started practising down and stay. She loves her treats very food oreintated. Good at breakfast and dinner, sits wating for you to put a bowl down. Eats very qucickly though as if shes worried it could be her last meal. Been completely clean in the house in fact shes done her business in exactly the right place at the end of the garden!

Gave her a chew bone to have in her crate when I had to go out the other day, she chewed it for a while and then tried to bury it under her bed bless her.

Our one problem here is that she doesnt like my cat, would eat her given the chance. And since Jen arrived the cat has become really clingy as if jealous and keeps appearing everywhere!!

Anyway thought Id do a little update on her and will keep you posted on the cat/dog relationship! Anyone had experience of introducing a new dog to a cat with a tips would be great.

All our dogs have been generally cat 'snappy'. We have two cats … a Bengal and a ex ‘wild’ stray moggie who my daughter brought into the home a few winters back. I have always been very cautious hence new dogs are somewhat restrained in the house (either gated, tied on long leads to a table, muzzle in the garden, etc) to start off with until we are confident of the reaction the dog will have once a cat is in ‘range of fire’. Over time they generally have got used to out cats. Most of our dogs are we have had large breed hence generally the cat is physically advantaged to get far away quickly however we are currently fostering Polly and she is very VERY fast and direct when something hits her field of site (birds, cats, rabbits, etc). I have noticed that Polly approaches cats with EXTREME excitement, and when she gets close (based on the very few times this has happened) she doesn't attack as both cat and dog kinda freeze. Only when the cat moves again does Polly get all ‘emotional’ again and the chase restarts. I do wonder if she sees it as some kind of game … but the does she make come sound ‘aggressive’ with teeth on view full hence we are very very cautious but we are getting used to her mannerisms. In summary though when ‘bad’’ things happen then Polly is corrected to any unwanted behaviours (put in her crate for some chill out time, water sprayed on head, etc ) and when the dog (whether it is my rotty, mastiff, “Polly”) ignores the cat then they are praised. For all of a our dogs/cat experience we have had to be tenacious in our approach and patient … baby steps .. day-by-day.

Thank you for your reply and info. Yes we too are having to be very careful. Jen is not just snappy she is obsessed when she sees the cat but I spoke to Shaun who also advised some controlled introductions and to use a water spray when Jen goes into transfixed mode! Im worried because the cat is a little over confident my other dogs were bigger but Jen is quicker!

Its early days and we are trying to introduce things gradually while we get to know her and she gets to know us, so yes baby steps for us too. Worth it though she is a sweetie and the more user friendly she is generally by the time she leaves us the better. We now get waggy tail on greeting her and that makes your heart melt so we will do all we can training and time wise.

Jen made us laugh twice yesterday she was in the front room and it had got dark she looked through the french doors and saw her reflection she was fascinated then did a low grumble moving slowly forward! We xplained to her that it was her! And later after she had watched a bit of telly she then put herself to bed! She even had to nose the crate door open as it had swung closed.

Bless her, she is very polite at door ways aswell, she doesnt rush through she waits for you to call her.

We used the water spray today for the first time when she didnt listen and it worked a treat she doesnt like getting her hair wet!

Shes had sloppy poos today ( is that too much infomation ??) not sure why as she is on the same food. Has had quite a few treats but only gravy bones, bonios and small bits of smackoos. She has a habit of munching grass whilst out walking and managed to get a small bit of horse poo... but woudnt have thought that would have caused it.

Sounds like she is coming along a treat,
