SITUATION Dogs reactions
Person casually walks past dog while dog is eating (meal or special food) Shows no interest around his food
Person tries to pick up bowl while dog is eating (meal or special food) Shows no interest when food bowl is picked up
Person tries to pick up food that has fallen to floor while dog is trying to reach it Once covered he ignores and walks away
Person tries to touch or take away high value food that dog is eating or holding
Person tries to touch or take away a toy that dog is playing with Shows no interest in toys
Person reaches hand towards dog Sows no unwanted behaviours
Person reaches over dog’s head As above
Person tries to put on leash and/or collar Shows small amount of excitability and tries to bite lead
Person grabs at dog’s collar or neck Shows no response
Person pulls on dog’s collar or neck Same as above
Person hugs dog around neck Shows no unwanted behaviours and is quite affectionate
Person pushes down on dog’s back Tries to get away does not show any unwanted behaviours
Person pushes down on dog’s rump Goes into a sit
Person tries to get dog to lie down by voice command Does not know this command
Person tries to get dog to lie down by physical pushing Refuses
Person tries to get dog to roll over on its back by physical manipulation When in a down allows you to roll on back does not show any unwanted behaviours
Person tries to groom dog’s head , torso, or legs (ie other than feet) Very accepting of the brush
Person touches dog’s feet No problems with feet being touched
Person clips or tries to clip dog’s toenails Not tested
Person tries to bathe dog, including towelling off after bath Not tested
Person tries to open dog’s mouth Easily allows you to open mouth and put hand inside
Person stares into dog’s eyes Will hold eye contact but no unwanted behaviour
Person shouts loudly near dog Looks in the direction does not show any unwanted behaviours
Person threatens dog with object such as newspaper or with hand Cowers slightly and freezes
Person drops an object near dog Slight startled response then goes over to investigate the item
Stranger knocks on door or rings bell at dog's home Does not pay any attention
Stranger enters house As above
Stranger in house tries to pet dog Very accepting of being petted
Stranger approaches dog in car Shows no response
Stranger approaches dog on street
Shows no unwanted behaviours towards people
Another person touches or hugs person with dog No issues
Stranger shouts loudly in dog’s presence Looks in the direction no unwanted behaviour
Dog walks past familiar non reactive dog He will ignore if he knows them if he knows they don’t want to know him
Dog walks past unfamiliar non reactive dog He will bound over to them with no manners to play
Dog walks past familiar reactive dog He does not want to know them and wants to get away shows no aggression
Dog walks past unfamiliar reactive dog Same as above
Bruce can be very stubborn he is a little nervous and if he does not like the look of something he looks for his comfort zone and stays there. He needs teaching dog manners and how to greet correctly
All these behaviours were shown at the time of this assessment conducted by Shaun Aldridge (Ruff Diamond Dog Training); however these behaviours may change in different circumstances.
