Hector
Leonberger x gsd
Be is between 3 and 4 years old we know about two homes he has had but one
said he was three other said four!i
His history is a little unclear - he was sold in the Friday ad around a
month ago. According to the information we have he was sold because the
RSPCA had been called due to the fact he was very underweight and the
owners wanted to get rid of him before any investigations happened. The
people that bought him from the paper had good intentions and got him
vaccinated and chipped but had three young children. They told us he was a
super family dog but had tried to mount one of the children. They were
offered free neutering and we recommended training classes but the owners
declined and wanted to rehome immediately instead.
So far :
People - good natured with all people so far, forms attachments quickly
suspect will be a very loyal dog.
Other dogs - he has been walkies with 5 of the dogs at work, and has also
been to dog training and met lots of dogs of various sizes there and was
wonderfully well mannered with every single one. One entire large male dog
tried to mount him and he did tell him off but that seems a proportionate
response to me.
House training - appears to be well house trained.
Leaving on his own - we aren't sure yet about this. He has been good for
very short periods, but can bark when left when he is anxious. He doesn't
'get' the kong and even if tasty chews of treats he will leave them as
soon as you go as he is worried. He hadnt been left alone in the last
home. He has improved even over the last few days so I suspect it is just
due to the fact he is just unsure and is anxious about whether I'm coming
back or not.
He needs someone who can work on this.
On the lead - good on extendi lead on his walks but can pull when excited
Training: knows sit and down, does not know wait or stay yet. He doesn't
seem to have a good recall yet but he learned very quickly on his walk to
come back for treats. Is more intelligent than the average Leo I feel he
will be very trainable.
Cats - not sure yet - seems ok with confined cats that aren't running -
watch this space
Overall
His blue eye sometimes makes people look twice But he really is thebiggest
softest cuddly bear ever. He will make someone a wonderful dog!
