PostSubject: Re: Betty HOMED   Betty HOMED - Page 3 EmptySun Jul 03, 2011 8:44 pm

She's only been here just over 24hrs, so it's just a little update.

Betty is a gentle natured who has developed very few social manners with other dogs. She little is very much in other dogs' faces, and will persist in using her paw to pull them towards her, not aggressively, more like to let them know that she wants to be part of the act. Unfortunately,'normal' well socialised dogs' tend to take a step back and re-assess the situation. I suppose it's a bit like the difference between meeting Kate Middleton and Linda, the woman from the 'Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimme' television series.

Luckily, although very much in her face, she quickly learn't that the puppy wouldn't go any where near her while she was being so over keen. Once she sat down and let the puppy approach, she realised that the puppy would play with her - just on his terms. That was a turning point for her and her behaviour with the others is now more relaxed.

Her throat sounds a bit raspy and every now and again, she clears it, a sort of cough. Her neck is really sore, and I'm wonderig if it could be put down to maybe the anesthetic and/or the tube they put down their necks for an operation - will have to see how it goes.

When she plays with the puppy, she'll scream out if he pulls her skin around the neck, and not once has this girl retaliated and snapped back st the puppy, neither has it stopped play.
So, all in all a really good day which has helped to settle her.

Will give another update as things progress - but this girl's gentle nature is shining through already heart

She looks happy Janice really pleased your lot are teaching her some manners

Those legs could get her in trouble one day, I keep saying the same to my Lola, but luckily mine are more used to this as my other Dane also did it, hopefully your dogs will calm it down, my dogs would make it worse shame

She did not have a cough before the operation Janice, so it must be from when the pipe went down the throat

I take it she is now fully awake seemed to take her forever to come round from the anesthetic

Huge thanks to you and the Essex Massive for taking care of her clap clap

BETTY UPDATE!!!!

Betty is coming on in leaps and bounds. She enjoys the company of other dogs, although still has trouble with being the instigator of play, but she has stopped pawing and waits for them to come to her, so now they are all playing together. This last couple of days, she has slipped right into the house routine and to tell the truth I can’t think of any downside to this girl.
She is very sweet natured and will line up and wait her turn for her meal, or a treat, which she takes very gently. I’ve not seen any aggression whatsoever, and she is now approaching me without being shy – I usually get a huge lick on the ear as I’m tying a shoelace - lol Anyone coming into the house is greeted with a wagging tail and a hopeful look for a pat on the head – she doesn’t compete with my lot for attention, but is just happy knowing that her turn will come. She’s very submissive by nature and even backs down if the pup tells her off in play – although she’s straight back ready to play again.
She’s been left for three hours with no problems, she isn’t bothered by the cat, visiting dogs/kids. She’s remained completely clean and hasn’t even chewed up any toys. The only problem she had was the play issue, but then it was non-aggressive and she was quick to back down when challenged, but even that’s not happening now, and I expect her to learn very quickly when faced with meeting a new dog. She pulls on a lead for the first 5 mins, her recall is great and to tell the truth – I can’t really fault her. If she feels wanted, she’ll settle in anywhere, all this girl wants to do is belong.

Although not in order, these pics have been taken in the last week or so, the top and bottom ones are the latest and you can see how quickly she's filling out.

Pup in the last pic is a DDA Watch puppy. They managed to get two of the litter, the rest were homed through FB affraid affraid

This is Lexi, a DDB(mum) X Presa/Corso/Mastiff, (and by all accounts a huge dog). At the moment its a worry whether the other puppy (Peaches), will turn out 'of type'. Hopefully this little one, who is twice the size of her sister, will be too big.

This little girl is just on 8 weeks old affraid

I know this isn’t an awards ceremony but……………..

I just wanted to thank a few people, the ones who go that extra mile to help dogs and the people who want to help them:-

Thanks to Niall for posting the picture of her on FB on 1st June. I felt I knew her from that photo and I had to follow my intuition that she really belonged here with Horace and Me.

Thanks to Sharon for putting up with my persistent inquiries as to her whereabouts and then letting me know she had landed at LBDR, making time for visits from Horace to meet her, and finally trusting me to bring her home.

Thanks to Kyra for travelling from here to there and back again with Betty and Daisy and arranging the meetings/walks with Horace.

Thanks to Janice for doing a great job of fostering her.

So, two months on from the day I saw her picture, she’s here, settling in very well with the heffalump which is Horace and looking very much at home.

I will write more about her progress and with pictures as soon as I can, but this is just to say, once again, Thank-you all!
