Roxy is a female Great Dane of around a year old. She is a bit nervous at the moment but this seems to be due to the fact that everything is new and strange to her, although she seems to be adjusting very quickly to her new surroundings and all the new people she is meeting.

She doesn’t appear to have had any lead training whatsoever, we are working on this & she is responding well, she is very excited when she goes for a walk at first but soon calms & enjoys a good sniff around.

Roxy is a very sweet, gentle girl, she will jump up at the moment but in a gentle way and this is also being worked on. She has not really mixed with other dogs but is showing no bad ways towards them, even when they bark at her.

Roxy is house trained, has lived with cats and children. She will need an owner that will keep up her training & socialisation with other dogs. Roxy is booked in at the vets to be spayed, she will be microchipped and will also be starting her vaccinations so that she is ready to go off to her new home as soon as it comes along.

Roxy has recovered well from her spay is now microchipped and up to date with her vaccinations

She is a great girl her recall is not good at all but this is not down to not knowing what is wanted of her but the fact she knows if she comes back that could be the end of playtime, she is just a huge pup that wants to play all the time

Roxy is now in a foster home where her lead work and interaction with other dogs is being worked on, so far she is doing really well and loves playing with the other dogs

blow kiss

Hi Folks,

As I am really interested in adopting Roxy ( and have tonight sent off the adoption application form ) I was wondering if it would be possible to know a little of her background and why a beautiful dog like that has ended up in rescue.

Also would it be possible to ask her foster mum to bring her to the walk on Sunday so that our " gang " can meet her.

Regarding the walk - could I ask a few questions please?

Is it only for big breeds or can all my lot come (border collies as well as Digby Dane?)

How will it benefit the LBDR - do we have to sponsored to come on the walk?

When I have been on Great Dane Walks before they are fantastic with up to 50 Great Danes as well as other breeds milling around together with no social problems at all - will this be similar or do the dogs have to be walked on leads?

I have found Mote Park on the map and will be shortly doing a route to and from the venue - the last Great Dane walk I went on in Elvaston Castle in Derby, I only did a route to the venue thinking that we could reverse it for the home journey lol! got hopelessly lost in Birmingham on the return journey, went from there to Warwick, Banbury , Chipping Norton and finally got back to Wales via Swindon ( the M4 got moved that day) and although it took us almost 5 hours to get home I only did 35 miles more than I should have oops .
Looking forward to meeting everybody on the walk on Sunday - format clarification would be thankfully received !!!
confused Love to all , Ang and Digby xx

I have added some info about the Mote park dog walk here: Mote park

Roxy came into rescue as she had grown to big, I haven't a clue what size they thought a Great Dane would grow to! doh

We will see if Roxy can be at the walk & let you know crossed

Here is a link about the walk

https://lbdr.forumotion.com/news-events-f4/mote-park-dog-walk-t132.htm

The dogs are on and off lead, the rescue dogs must be on lead at all times as this is what our insurance company says so we must stick to the rules, once they are adopted they can come along and when ready can be let off lead

Roxy came into rescue because (are you sitting down) she got to big, she was not taken out because she pulled on the lead, I suppose with all her pent up energy she was becoming a bit of a handful in the home, she is now building muscle in her legs although for a while care should be taken that she does not over do things whilst the muscle is being built, she lived with a number of children from very young and she lived with a cat
When Roxy came out of her shell here she was a bit like a kangaroo on the lead and it was nothing for me to have a paw print on the top of my head but as she is learning this is getting better, she is now with Julie and doing really well she has been walking her on a halti I think and she says she is doing great

We will arrange for Roxy to be on the walk this Sunday

Hi All ,

Just to let you know that after a bit of confusion at the weekend I am picking up Roxy tom orrow (counting the hours and minutes) and bringing her back to her new life in Wales with Digby and the collies. I am so excited but know that I will have to go to bed in a bit or else I won't be able to drive back safely.
It was wonderful to see her and Digby playing together as Danes play so differently to other dogs - the collies are really grateful to - he might stop picking them up and moving them around now!!
I have promised Sharon and Gilly that I will stay on the forum and post regularly so you can keep up with her progress - she really is a sweet Dane - and I will also get to one or two of the walks in the summer with the gang so you can see how she gets on.
We have a nice group of Danes and Dane owners now increasing in the local area around Cardiff and will be able to have our own group walks which will be fun .
Thanks again to Sharon and Gilly for their help and for allowing me to have Roxy.
Love to all, Ang, Digby and Roxyxxx
