Shade - HOMED Empty
PostSubject: Shade - HOMED   Shade - HOMED EmptySat Mar 24, 2012 11:44 am

Shade is 18 months old and has spent the last 10 months sitting in a pound, he seems very friendly to people, likes the female dogs that he has met, not been so good with the males that have just been castrated, he was castrated this week

More info and photos to follow

I walked lovely Shade again last night. He loves getting out in the woods, with all the smells and last night, all the mud! laughing He is a bright boy and keen to please, he will walk to heel with a couple of reminders. We are still working on his barking and pulling towards any dogs that come a bit too close. Currently, he does this as this is what he has learnt to do. Last night, he started to learn that if he looked at other dogs and looked away unconcerned, he got a reward. He worked this out quickly and was happy to get treats and get things right. Shade is a great fun dog, who needs time and patience to be shown a better way to behave.

Shade went out on his group walk last night, he was better behaved . We are still assessing his behaviours, particularly around dogs and people. He loves people, so much so , that if/when they walk away he can get agitated and bark and lunge. This could be learnt behaviour from his very long stay in the pound. Last night he walked much closer to dogs he knew with no bad behaviour towards them. However, he still has a long way to go with his rehabiliation.
this is one lovely boy blow kiss

Shade is so full of fun, hes like a little bouncy puppy.
I took him out around the field with no other dogs in sight
and he's such a plonker, chasing his own tail, tearing around
like a loon. He's a lovely, lovely boy.
He loves human affection and sit for a fuss for ages!
Keep working your magic Heather clap

It is really funny with Shade, when he is in his kennel he has no issues with other dogs coming up to him, and no issues with the dogs at a distance, you can see he wants to be friendly with them, but he is just scared when not in his kennel bless him,

Took Shade out for a lovely evening walk yesterday with just Mitchell. He was a lot more relaxed with only one dog around. He did still bark and give the occasional lunge but he settled much more quickly and really just enjoyed the sights and smells of a good walk in the woods.

Shade thrives on human contact and is so keen to get things right. He requires consistant time and patience to help him unlearn some patterns of behaviour that he reverts to when anxious. With the right owner this boy will do so well.

Any further updates on Shade that can be shared with the forum members of the LBDR community? Just noticed the last update was in May. Just keen to keep his name out their on the headlines.

Took Shade out for his regular Monday night training. Shade continues to be reactive around dogs but it appears to be a response based on conditioning rather than fear driven. Shade takes correction well and is keen to please. He thrives on human attention and loves the time working with handlers and getting out and about.
Shade continues to improve but it is a slow proces and he has some way to go. I really enjoy working with this boy, he is a challenge but has so much potential.

Had a good walk with Shade yesterday, after the initial excitement of
being out he settled into a nice little plod around the field.

We sat down for cuddles and he WILL sit on your lap!
He loves human attention & affection.

Shade plays well in the outside runs, he was playing with his football, chasing
it around like a plonker and totally ignores the other dogs, even when they're
barking. He can see them all in their kennels through the fence but he didnt bat
an eyelid. He's a great boy and its so lovely to see him improving each week.
Its a long, slow process with Shade but he's getting there
