Joe is such a sweet natured boy who seems to love everyone and just wants to please. When he first came in he was all over the place on the lead but now he generally walks quite nicely. He will pull towards other dogs as he desperately wants to play but is quite easy to check.

I think he will make a wonderful family pet and I suspect he would do very well in obedience training. He behaves beautifully for my teenage daughter who is completely smitten with him and makes me take her over to Sharon's to walk him as often as she can (in fact if we lived closer I suspect Sharon would be looking for a restraining order by now!)

As I understand it, he's been in rescue kennels effectively his whole life so it would be fabulous if he could find somewhere to start learning to be an indoor dog while he's still a relative youngster.

I would have him like a shot if I wasn't working - I would love to see him and my daughter taking training classes together - but as Mick is the one who is at home during the day he is the one that would bear the brunt of the work on housetraining etc and at the moment he needs to focus any time he can spare on Stubbs (mainly teaching him that he can't approach playing with all dogs as though they are Duchess or Bana since smaller ones are liable to break!)

I usually walk the dogs around the nearby fields but it was so wet and muddy
today (and my wellies were leaking!!!!) So I stuck to the road today which
meant Joe saw lots of cars.
I found out today that Joe likes to chase cars! madness

Every car that went past he tried to run after. Then we saw a young lad on
his push bike and Joe shit a brick - I found out today that Joe doesn't like
push bikes! He hid behind my legs until the strange looking bike had passed us

Joe ..... You're a plonker laugh

If you've got a bike Sharon I happen to have a spare teenager we can stick on it :) I'm sure Amber won't mind being volunteered. Probably not this weekend because we're doing the group walk with Corrina and Misty but if you want it worked on next weekend let me know.

Joe was so good at Mote Park today. hug Given that he's never been in a situation like that before he did really well - he was neither nervous nor too hyper, just wanted to be friends with everyone and would have loved to play. He was really good in the car too. hearts

24 hours into fostering Joe and everything's going fine here so far. big smile

He's mostly chilling in his crate so he can get a feel for house life while our two size him up. He and Stubbs seem to be getting on well but Uno is decidedly unimpressed (she was the same when Stubbs first came here though, just takes her a bit of time to warm up).

He was very settled overnight - whimpered for 5 or 10 minutes when we went to bed but then nothing else all night. No accidents indoors so far and he's eating well.

He had a walk with both of ours yesterday when he arrived and again this morning, then another long walk just with Stubbs today (while I took Uno for a play-date with her new wolfhound beau).

Obviously having no experience of house life he's being closely supervised when he's out of the crate but he seems to be settling well. And Amber has found that he just loves being groomed Wink

I can see that wouldn't go down well hell no He hasn't got close enough to Uno to try it - she's giving him fairly short shrift at the moment and ticks him off if he even looks in her direction. Maybe she's heard his reputation shame

Just a quick update so you know all's well. big smile

Joe is settling well, and spending longer periods out of his crate. We finally took the plunge and had him off lead in the garden with Stubbs this morning and they played beautifully, charging around in the swamp that passes for my lawn like a pair of lunatics loon loon then this afternoon we had Uno out with them as well and it was more of the same loon loon loon

He's not had a single accident indoors although I keep telling myself it's just a matter of time - we can't be that lucky! Obviously he's still got a lot to learn about what you can and can't do indoors but he's getting better and picks things up quickly. He's still keen on the idea of chasing cars affraid which is going to need some work but is otherwise fine on the lead although he'll pull if we see other dogs.

Uno takes no nonsense from him indoors but seems to be warming to him a bit, or at least resigned to his presence anyway. Stubbs is getting quite friendly with him but will tick him off if he annoys Uno which is quite funny to watch.

And he'll still do anything for a cuddle - that certainly hasn't changed.

So far so good...
