| Met his fella yesterday on his first day. He was understandably a bit confused and bewildered by all the changes but he took really well to offerings of black pudding and cheese He is very handsome and a little bit dribbly | |

| Max had his assessment
Dogs Name: Max Breed: English Mastiff x Corso Sex: Male Age: 03/04/2011 Date: 27/04/2012 SITUATION Dogs reactions Person casually walks past dog while dog is eating (meal or special food) Max shows very little interest around food and is not bothered at all Person tries to pick up bowl while dog is eating (meal or special food) Same as above Person tries to pick up food that has fallen to floor while dog is trying to reach it Max does not even bother going towards the treat he shows no interest Person tries to touch or take away high value food that dog is eating or holding Once Max has a high value bone he easily allows you to put your hand in his mouth and tack it out Person tries to touch or take away a toy that dog is playing with Once Max has the toy he easily allows you to take it from him Max loves his toys but easily allows you to take them once you can catch him he should not be allowed to play with tennis balls as he will try and chew and swallow them Person reaches hand towards dog Once Max knows you he has no problems with you reaching a hand toward him, he can be aloof with new people Person reaches over dog’s head As above Person tries to put on leash and/or collar Max has no problems with people taking control of his collar Person grabs at dog’s collar or neck Max shows no unwanted behaviour Person pulls on dog’s collar or neck As above Person hugs dog around neck Max sees hugging around his neck as start of play Person pushes down on dog’s back Max thinks this is play however when Max gets over excited with play he does growl, bark, jump up and mouth the arm Person pushes down on dog’s rump Dependant on what mood Max is in if he is in a playful mood he will try and mouth you hand if not he pushes up against your hand Person tries to get dog to lie down by voice command Max eventually goes into the down Person tries to get dog to lie down by physical pushing Max refuses to go into a down does not show any aggressive tendencies however this can initiate play Person tries to get dog to roll over on its back by physical manipulation Once Max is into the down he easily allows you to roll him on his back for a belly rub Person tries to groom dog’s head , torso, or legs (ie other than feet)
Max initial sees the brush as a toy and mouths it, but after this he is very excepting of grooming Person touches dog’s feet or uses comb or scissors on dog’s feet Max has no problems with you touching his feet Person clips or tries to clip dog’s toenails Not tested as has black nails Person tries to bathe dog, including towelling off after bath Max tries to get away does not want washing but will accept it Person tries to open dog’s mouth Max has no problems with you opening his mouth and putting your hand in his mouth Person stares into dog’s eyes Max is reluctant to hold eye contact, if Max does not know you he could find eye contact to be a threat Person shouts loudly near dog
Max will look in the general direction with a low tail swing does not show any unwanted behaviours Person threatens dog with object such as newspaper or with hand Max shows a slight wince but no unwanted behaviours Person drops an object near dog Max shows a slight startled response but then goes to investigate Stranger knocks on door or rings bell at dog's home Max stops and stares then, starts barking but doesn’t approach the stranger. Stranger enters house Again Max with continue to bark but doesn’t make an approach for the person. If the person were to approach max initial then he may bite, but for safety reasons the stranger was told not to approach Stranger in house tries to pet dog Once max is told it is ok then the stranger is able to approach and touch the dog Stranger approaches dog in car Not tested Stranger approaches dog on street Not tested yet Another person touches or hugs person with dog Max shows no unwanted behaviours Stranger shouts loudly in dog’s presence Max looks in the direct then approaches looking for reassurance Dog walks past familiar non reactive dog Max will ignore that dog however if the dog show play behaviours Max may respond with play behaviours Dog walks past unfamiliar non reactive dog Same as above Dog walks past familiar reactive dog Max will show avoidance techniques and try and get away from them by look for a means of escape Dog walks past unfamiliar reactive dog Same as above When Max is out of his comfort zone Max can sometimes become fearful. Max is very playful and jumps up and mouths a lot, because he is a big dog this needs addressing in his new home. I believe Max would not do well in as a single dog in a household, Max does show slight separation anxiety as he forms very close bonds. All these behaviours were shown at the time of this assessment conducted by Shaun Aldridge (Ruff Diamond Dog Training); however these behaviours may change in different circumstances.

| That is a fab crate! You re moving in to the giant breed dog rescue! Brian would need one that size but luckily he sleeps fine just being in the kitchen. | |

| We took Max on the LBDR Monthly Dog walk today at Jeskyns Park. He was the perfect gentleman in every way He greeted every human & child with a gentle nudge to make people stroke him - and EVERYONE wanted to stroke him! And he greeted every dog, little & large in a calm, playful manner. He was friendly with every dog he met; playful but not too bouncy. He was so good, dead proud of him, thats the first ever big walk hes been on and he was a little diamond He LOVED the water. Heres a little clip of him paddling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp6aay4jF-Y&feature=youtu.be | |

| He's not always that calm - he's a bit like a bull in a china shop too sometimes He loves to play & charge around like a loon. We took another video of him playing with Micha last night, it shows a slightly different Max!! I'll post it up on here soon | |
