Joe and Amber had a one to one training session with Shaun the trainer this afternoon, it was due to last last for an hour but ended up lasting an hour and a half. Joe seems to pick things up quickly but obviously has lots to learn.

Joe is really settling in now. Thanks to a visit from Tina all 3 dogs can now play in the garden together ok, still closely supervised but Stubbs and Joe have learnt not to escalate the playing and we now have the skills and confidence to stop them if they start.

Joe went to the first of the regular training sessions yesterday and the glorious weather made for a very enjoyable time. He did very well at obedience and loved the agility. Shaun the trainer agrees he has come on a vast amount from when he first saw him - Joe no longer jumps up, well almost never, and when Shaun tried to get him to jump up he stayed firmly planted to the ground. His nibbling is almost non existent and he doesn't nip at all. He is still very interested in anything moving fast (cars, other dogs running fast) and we think he has a very strong prey drive which will always need to be managed but he is getting better at ignoring the cars. He still has a long way to go but he is so intelligent that it wont take him long to pick it up. Everyone agreed he is an adorable boy; his comedy ears make him look so cute.

He looks like he really enjoyed the agility class, perhaps burning up some energy will help him, after spending his life in kennels this is so good for him and he is learning so much being with your family, well done and thank you for sticking with him

Since Amber and Joe are completely inseparable, Joe and Stubbs are getting on well and even Uno now seems to concede that he might not be completely intolerable after all it seemed like time to make a decision.

Just to let you know that Joe is back safe and sound from his holiday on Arran

He travelled brilliantly in the car (9 hours each way) and was really good on the ferry. Going over, the ferry was packed and I've never seen so many dogs on a crossing but although he got a bit excited he was very well behaved and got fussed by lots of people He had lots of lovely long walks on the shore, over the moors and through the forestry land. He liked the beaches, particularly sniffing the seaweed, but not the sea which he was very suspicious of. He wasn't keen on the streams he encountered either - apparently water is not supposed to move of its own accord!

And he learnt one very important life lesson: it is never a good idea to pee up against a gorse bush
